Fleur vs the Pavement

You know I love running. Despite the
fact that I put weight on this year, because I used my regular
running as an excuse to eat more than I used to, then let the regular
running become rather more irregular… well, a gain was inevitable,
really. But I’ve got back into it lately, combining it with an
exercise DVD called the 30 Day Shred (more on this at a later date)
and starting up weekend long runs again. And about time too, because
I have two, possibly three half marathons to run in October this

I do feel healthy, and my smaller
vintage dresses have started to fit me again, like this 1940s pinafore…

Take heed readers, for it turns out
that, far from the healthful and toning exercise you and I took it
for, running is in fact an extremely dangerous sport. When combined
with general malcoordinated-ness that characterises my every day, that is.
I went out last Sunday with a group of
glamorous running girls, with the intention of setting off on a 13.1mile
jaunt around the mean streets of Hackney. Well the mean streets were
just that, since they decided a very short distance into my run, to
trip me up and then PUNCH ME IN THE FACE.
By which I mean I fell over, landing on
my knee, hand, shoulder and eyebrow, in that exact order.
I actually managed to run a further 9
miles after that (thanks to the first aid administered by the gals in
the form of sympathy, tissues for blood and the few tears that
squeezed out, and a cupcake plaster), before a headache made me
decide to wimp out and I called it a day. I then spent the rest of
the afternoon in A&E getting the wound glued as I was worried
about concussion and facial scarring. I am proud of these eyebrows,
man. I will be gutted if I lose half of my left one to concrete.
Ah well. I’ve had to take three days
off running and shredding while I wait for my horribly painful
weeping friction burns to stop stinging so much… But while I wait
to restart it, has anyone else done the 30 Day Shred? I’ve taken my
starting measurements and am going to chart the effects once I’ve
finished the program! Let me know if it worked for you.
Tomorrow… King’s Ginger goes to visit the Queen, and the ghd hairdryer winner – go enter if you haven’t already!

I have seen your post accident pictures on Instagram already. Poor Fleur, I didn't know it was so bad you had to take days off from running and shredding (not that I knew you are "shredding" also) Talking about shredding aka the Jillian Michaels DVD, I have that DVD too. It's pretty good for a body weight resistance workout and will help you build strength. But if it will help you shed inches I don't know. That's usually down to diet, isn't it? Anyways, I am curious to see what you think about it. There is a whole bunch of DVDs by Jillian Michaels out there but I have only tried the 30day shred so let us know if you like this one a lot and decide to get other ones. Other than that good luck for your shredding and half marathon training and hopefully no more chasing pavements….

This is one thing I find really hard about running. I really want to love it, and I do get into it and begin to really enjoy it, but I haven't quite got used to the getting back up after I've hurt myself bit. I'm ridiculously clumsy and always seems to be falling over and bruising myself, especially when I go out running!

Hope you battle wounds heal soon x

Retro Chick

Ouch! Ooh I hate falling over! Always guaranteed to turn you into a kid again and want to cry!

I run on trails a lot and am really surprised I haven't gone arse over tit or broken my ankle on a rock or large tree branch yet. There's still time I guess!

Oh, I'm so sorry you fell! I would be such a wimp about it!

I hope you're feeling better and that they're not too tender by now!

Sending kisses for your baddies Fleur, I too have first hand experience of pavement rage and I wasn't even running at the time (I tripped out of my loafers! and slid across the pavement) Get well soon and remember "dudes dig scars!" xxxx

Hi, I tried the 30 day shred but found it left me more bulky than I wanted! (the ladies are a bit too 'ripped' for me!) I've been doing Ballet Beautiful DVD and online videos at http://www.balletbeautiful.com its done by Mary Helen Bowers who trained all the ladies in Black Swan. I've lost inches and gained grace which is great – and helped me stop falling over so much, as I’ve always been on the clumsy side! Definatly recommend! x

Ugh, you poor thing! Well, as my mother always said, "you have to suffer to be beautiful!" Although if it makes you feel any better I accidentally opened a door onto my own face last week – I really actually did walk into a door! It really happens!

I love, love, love those shoes. They remind me of a closed toe version of the pair Hepburn wore in Roman Holiday. Love! And your dress reminds me of Judy Garland. 🙂

Oh dear, you poor love! I too know the evilness of pavements. I was walking to work last year and I slipped and broke my leg. Stupid pavement! I hope you're healing nicely. Love the dress and the shoes look super comfy.

I thought that I am the only one who falls down when running. It happened to me three times within last two months and one time injured pretty badly. And I can agree, running is really dangerous.
